About Mrs. Armadilla Sippi
Mrs. Armadilla Sippi is a pen name of Angelina Souren, a geologist - marine biogeochemist and owner of the SmarterScience consultancy and web sites.
She was educated at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, from which she received several diploma’s, and at a few more universities in the U.S, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom. She was originally trained as a hard-rock geologist and worked in the Swedish Proterozoic, then switched to marine chemistry and for instance worked on rare earth elements in the Southern Ocean.
She is a former board member of the Environmental Chemistry section of the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society, former board member of what was at the time The Netherlands’ largest society for women in science, and has been part of the editorial team of the newsletter of The Geochemical Society.
She is a member of several scientific organizations, such as the AGU and the ASM. In 1998, she convened an AGU session in Boston and one of the invited contributions was from Jamstec, about fungi in the Mariana Trench.
